Scenic Upgrades and Technical Improvements for a Century-Old Auditorium
Scenic Solutions partnered with the Dayton Masonic Center to design and install a new main drape and matching valance for the historic Schiewetz Auditorium in Dayton, Ohio. Inspired by the auditorium’s original 1920s design, the project enhanced the venue’s visual character while incorporating modern functionality for today’s performances.

Historically Inspired Main Drape Design
Research into historic photographs of the Schiewetz Auditorium’s original 1920s stage drape provided the foundation for the new design. The replacement drape honored the building’s architectural heritage while introducing updated materials and functionality for long-term performance use.
Enhanced Performance Functionality
In addition to installing the new main drape and valance, Scenic Solutions integrated modern stage technology to improve day-to-day operation.
- Researched original 1920s reference photography to recreate the historic appearance of the main drape.
- Installed a new traveler motor, allowing the drape to split and fly simultaneously for greater production flexibility.
- Finished the drape and valance with gold trim, creating a rich, historically inspired appearance at an economical price point.
