Bringing the Sunset Strip to the Stage
Scenic Solutions provided scenic fabrication for a regional production of Rock of Ages, the jukebox musical that celebrates 1980s rock anthems with big hair, bold attitude, and even bigger set pieces. The design needed to capture the gritty glamour of the Sunset Strip while supporting rapid scene changes, high-energy performances, and a rebellious visual style.
Building a Loud, Layered Scenic Environment
Industrial Aesthetic with Theatrical Flair
The scenic environment recreated the look of dive bars, neon-lit clubs, and grungy back alleys—all designed to amplify the energy of the soundtrack and storyline.
- Fabricated multi-level platforms, scaffolding, and staircases for dynamic staging
- Applied distressed textures, graffiti-style accents, and metallic finishes to evoke a raw, lived-in feel
- Integrated signage frames, faux brickwork, and LED-ready features for immersive lighting design

The show’s fast pacing and big musical numbers required a set that could handle constant performer interaction:
- Reinforced scenic units to withstand climbing, jumping, and choreography
- Modular construction for smooth transitions between scenes and flexible use of space
- Built-in access points and scenic masking to accommodate surprise entrances and prop storage
